Our Approach
Compassionate Counseling provides counseling to individuals and families in the Umpqua Valley and beyond, virtually and in person. Our overarching goal is to help you learn to love God, self and others.
Even if you are not a person of faith, together we can discover more healthy ways of functioning. At no time will "religion" be pushed on you.
We offer support and encouragement by helping you understand yourself better, enabling you to work with and not against yourself.
This will help you address issues from a new perspective, whether dysfunctional family relationships, work challenges, as well as codependency and other chronic issues. Finding a better balance in your life will help heal relational issues, and deal with stress in a more productive and life-giving manner.
In addition, Larry is Symbis Assessment Certified Facilitator. An assessment tool for pre-marriage couples, as well as those already married, it is extremely useful and comprehensive in it's scope.
Meet Larry
Larry Brown is a Pastoral Counselor, a Certified Temperament Counselor, a member of the National Christian Counselors Association, and a Symbis Assessment Certified Facilitator. (https://www.symbis.com/couples/) Having spent 37 years in public education, as well as leading worship and providing pastoral care, he is now retired from those positions. In addition to a Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in education, he has a Master of Arts in Biblical Studies with a concentration in pastoral studies from Warner Pacific College in Portland, Oregon.
His life experiences, temperament, as well as training, give him a perspective and tools to encourage and help you to grow, to love God, yourself, and others. Through his own journey, he continues to develop skills which can help individuals and couples understand themselves better. Having been a teacher for many years, he welcomes talking to young people.
An excellent listener, Larry will meet you with humility, gentleness and kindness.

This session will be an introduction to my counseling approach, as well as a chance for you to have a listening ear.
Each session is 50 or more minutes long.
My office is located at the Business Center, 649 SE Rice St., St. 204, Roseburg, Oregon. It is in the same building as the Roseburg Senior Center, but on the west side.
Zoom sessions available.
Ongoing counseling is $40 per session.
Need will be figured into billing. If you have a need, and no money, please check in with me. Your personal effort is key.
